Everyone knows that Chinese Shaolin Kung fu is a type of martial art

February 17, 2012 at 7:06 AM in Other Sports by Shaolin India

Chinese Shaolin Kung fu has fascinated me since the time I saw Shaolin Temple the movie. Many trips to the internet and many google searches later, I got some real solid information about Chinese Shaolin kung fu that were more than eye-openers.

Everyone knows that Chinese Shaolin Kung fu is a type of martial art that requires great concentration of the mind and which gives the body great agility and strength. But how many know that the physical and mental benefits of Chinese Shaolin Kung Fu are only the good side effects of this practice. This practice strengthens the spirit more than the mind and body. In fact Chinese Shaolin Kung Fu has more to do with spiritual awareness than with physical fitness and mental alertness.

At the Shaolin Monastery in China where this discipline was developed (and it had taken several decades for the monks to develop it), the monks are very choosy about taking the disciples. Sometimes it takes an avid student several years to convince the monks to accept him as a student. And even after that it may be several years of spiritual strengthening before the actual practice is taught.

Now, martial arts classes that are held by the Shaolin Kung Fu School is the only way that one can have a whiff of the Chinese Shaolin Kung Fu. I say a whiff because martial arts classes can teach only a very small portion of Chinese Shaolin Kung Fu. Martial arts classes are useful even if only the physical part of these disciplines is taught because learning them trains the body and mind. Martial arts classes are useful for physical fitness as well as mental alertness.

Also martial arts like Chinese Shaolin Kung Fu are skills that should be used for self -defence and not for violence. Martial art classes are now found everywhere and are popular among the people who wish to learn these skills for physical fitness and self-defence. After all it is better to be safe physically even if not on a higher spiritual plane like the Buddhist monks of the shaolin Monastery.

Stress management training important in urban life

February 17, 2012 at 7:06 AM in Other Sports by Shaolin India

In the urban world, stress is a way of life. Even day to day living doing ordinary things of life is stressful. Stress management is one of the most important activities that everybody in the modern world have to indulge in because of the stressful life that everyone has to lead.

So how does one manage stress? Because it is very simple that one needs to avoid stress but very stressful to actually do it. And jokes aside, I have found that following stress management programs that have been developed by professionals is the best way to control and manage stress.

Many psychologists, management professionals and HRD specialists have devised stress management programs to manage stress at the workplace. But the workplace is not the only place where urban man experiences stress. Stress is all over the place and more so there is need to have stress management training so that they can face and manage stress in a much better way.

With the development in Information Technology, all kinds of information is available at the click of a mouse. Information regarding stress management programs and stress management training is now available on the internet, experts have written books on the subject and there are companies of management professional who organize stress management programs and stress management training workshops and seminars to educate the people to be able to lead more peaceful lives with better control of stress.

But along with the real programs there are also many shams that fill the market who take advantage of the fact that these stress management programs are needed and sell whatever fraud they are able to put together. It is important to distinguish the grain from the chaff and opt for only genuine stress management training that will truly alleviate the suffering of stress.

Again this is a tall order because how does one separate the grain from the chaff? Is there a formula to do this correctly always? The answer is no, there is no fool-proof system to do this. Because, stress is felt differently by different people and stress management programs will give different results for different people.

Most popular street Food in Urban India: Chinese food

February 17, 2012 at 7:05 AM in Other Sports by Shaolin India

What do Chinese food restaurants in India or anywhere really serve? Is it the food that we can get to eat in a common Chinese home in mainland China or even on the streets of Shanghai or Beijing or in the swanky local restaurants across the length and breadth of China?

No, not at all! The Chinese food in India, anywhere has no resemblance whatsoever to the real Chinese food of that country. Even after considering that China is a humungous country with all kinds of weather and other geographical features and it is natural to expect that the food will differ with the region which is also true of India, what we get as Chinese food in India has no connection with the food eaten in any region or place there.

Because what we get here is the Indianised and regionalized version of what we think is Chinese food. The borders of India and China touch at a few places in the North and North-eastern parts of the country and there could be a semblance of common taste in those regions but that is restricted and not completely true at all. That is to say that although we may consider that the food of the natives of Manipur or Arunachal Pradesh or Assam to be the same as what we think is Chinese food in India, it is not so at all. All our states have their own special cuisine that has been developed over decades by virtue of what is grown there, what the climate is like and the local customs.

There are hardly any Chinese food restaurants that can be called real and a very few that have been part of the International Hotel chains that bring some authenticity to the Chinese food in India. But I have no hard feelings since whatever small Chinese food restaurants or the street hawker of Chinese food in India bring to us give us great enjoyment , fulfillment and nourishment at a fairly cheap price. What more do we wish to have?

Shaolin Kung Fu: The spiritual martial art

February 17, 2012 at 7:04 AM in Other Sports by Shaolin India

I learnt about this fantastic Martial Arts from China; Shaolin Kung Fu, from the movies of my youth and was I not impressed with Bruce Lee and the likes! Yet, that was only the information that was the tip of the iceberg. What I learnt about Shaolin Kung Fu from the internet and from Shaolin India really left me deeply moved and impressed.

Now I know that Shaolin Kung Fu is not just a martial art that keeps your body agile and mind alert so that you are able to protect yourself if and when the need arises. It is this and much more than that. The physical and mental benefits accrued from Shaolin Kung Fu are only the by-products of a discipline that is acquired by complete dedication, passion and complete submission of the ego.

I was more than stunned when I was talking about Shaolin Kung Fu with someone from Shaolin India. What I understood then is that Shaolin Kung Fu is a spiritual discipline that cannot be fully taught in a Shaolin Kung Fu School. It has to be learnt from the real masters who have acquired this art from the Shaolin Monastery where the Buddhist monks guide them in learning and understanding spiritual practices more than the physical routines. It could be some years before a disciple is accepted by one of these master monks and it could be another few years before any physical training is imparted. But according to Shaolin India, once the person is on the right spiritual path the control of the body and mind are the least difficult of the practices.

The Shaolin Kung Fu School cannot boast of replicating the experience of the training at the Shaolin Monastery but Shaolin India claim that in the Shaolin Kung Fu School run by them will have masters that have been trained at the Monastery and what will be taught there will not be just physical exercise. This claim itself gives any Shaolin Kung Fu opened by Shaolin India due credence. If not all some benefits will surely trickle down to the aspiring students.

All Martial Arts Classes cannot teach Shaolin Kung Fu

January 07, 2012 at 6:49 AM in Other Sports by Shaolin India

Chinese Shaolin Kung fu is that body of Martial arts that has gained a lot of popularity these days, more so after many Hollywood movies have been made, the more famous being the Bruce Lee movies and the more recent Shaolin Temple. The interest garnered by Chinese Shaolin Kung fu is not only due to the fact that this seemingly impossible skill is possible to master but also because by knowing and being adept in Chinese Shaolin Kung fu one is able to protect oneself from aggression and hostility even when one is unarmed.

Martial Arts classes that teach Chinese Shaolin Kung fu are now in India as well and one does not have to go all the way to China to learn the skills. Great Masters trained in Chinese Shaolin Kung fu now teach at these Martial Arts classes which have started dotting the whole country. Martial Arts classes teaching Chinese Shaolin Kung fu and other genres are also being held in schools to involve and create interest in children. Sports clubs and health clubs hold Martial Arts classes and standalone Martial Arts classes are also found in many places.

With the glut of Martial Arts classes in the country, there is a dearth of real teachers and trainers who are truly accomplished in these arts. Teachers from Chinese Shaolin Kung fu genre of martial arts are really hard to find as this system is an intense and deep system that takes years of training and dedicated practice at the Shaolin Temple in China. A few trained teachers from there or the Great Masters are here to impart their rare and exclusive knowledge. It is important to know that one takes the help of genuine Masters to learn Chinese Shaolin Kung fu or else one can learn the technique without being aware of the essence of the real Chinese Shaolin Kung fu and that is really sad. Because there is much more to Chinese Shaolin Kung fu than the techniques and movements taught at Martial Arts classes, the deeper awareness of the mind and awakening of the spirit is what is really important.
